Why is it so busy in Haarlem?
Haarlem is being rebuilt considerably over the coming years, and many roads and bridges are already busy. Below are the reasons at a glance, with what we measured ourselves this week.
The main reasons
- A lot of roadworks. The Spaarnepoort transport hub on the Schipholweg, the redesign of the Europaweg and the Prins Bernhardlaan, maintenance on bridges and on the railway. Some projects last until 2029. Everything is on roadworks.
- Bridges over the Spaarne. When a bridge is open for a boat, the traffic behind it stands still. On weekdays most bridges do not open during rush hour; the times are listed per bridge on bridges.
- Rush hour. In the morning and evening rush hour it is busiest on the Schipholweg, the Westelijke Randweg (N208) and the road to Amsterdam (A200).
- Holidays. During school holidays it is usually quieter.
